Celebrate the joy of the works of Shakespeare at Pequot Library’s Shakes-Beer Festival. Join area breweries to raise a glass to the Bard of Avon and sample delicious local light bites. Entertainment will be provided throughout the duration of the event. Tickets are $75 and include three drink tickets as well as food provided by Super Duper Weenie.
Music will be provided by Richard Pressinger, a Juilliard-trained opera singer who has received positive reviews from the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, as well as Gwendolyn Toth, the artistic director of New York City’s ARTEK, who is recognized as one of the nation’s leading early music performers. “Her interpretive skills are sensitive and intelligent, and she clearly has a gift for program conceptualization.” (New York Times)
Pressinger and Toth will perform selections from William Byrd, including pieces from Byrd’s Songs of Sundrie Natures (1589). William Byrd, a contemporary of William Shakespeare, will set the stage for an afternoon of Elizabethan reverie.
This event is co-sponsored by Athletic Brewing Company and Two Roads Brewing Company.
