Save Our Town: Protest Against U.I.
- This event has passed.
United Illuminating (U.I.) is planning to build 7.3 miles of 115-kV transmission lines on 102 NEW poles ranging in height from 95’ to 195’ from Southport to Bridgeport. New poles require excavation depths of 40 ft or more. U.I.’s plan calls for 6.5 acres of deforestation along the corridor – 5.5 miles of which will be permanent – eliminating much of the visual barrier between the community and the train/power infrastructure. It requires 19.25 acres of permanent utility easements, taking land rights from residents, businesses, organizations, and municipalities.
