Join renowned historian Dava Sobel as she describes her award-winning book, Longitude, and its connections to our exhibition, Charting Your Course: Cutting-Edge Navigation and Seafaring. Longitude has received numerous awards, including British Book of the Year and inclusion on Modern Library’s 100 Best Nonfiction books of all time.
Pequot Library displays Mr. John Harrison’s Timekeeper in our exhibition. In Longitude, Sobel provides the human narrative behind the chronometer that he invented, a revolutionary tool that allowed sailors to calculate longitude at sea.
