On view in the Pequot Library auditorium from December 15, 2021 – January 20, 2022.

A celebration of the iconic Connecticut barn, Preservation Connecticut, formerly known as the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation, brings its travelling photography show to Southport. The show is the result of an open contest in which a judges panel selected thirty-five images of Connecticut barns in four categories: black and white, color, detail, and smartphone. Included in this selection is “Best in Show,” Connie Mendolia’s “Tobacco Barn at Harvest Time, Glastonbury CT.”

Preservation Connecticut’s continues its commitment to honoring and protecting the Connecticut barn. From 2006-2013, the organization surveyed over 8,400 barns across the state with funding from the State Historic Preservation Office and the assistance 400 volunteers. The result was a database of 2,000 barns (www.connecticutbarns.org), 200 State Register of Historic Places barn nominations, and a barn trail leading visitors around the state to these iconic buildings.
