Music for Youth and Pequot Library proudly present the final stage of the 2018 Marianne Liberatore Scholarship Competition. Finalists will perform live in the Library’s auditorium for their chance to win $1000 in scholarship money and a place in Pequot Library’s Emerging Artists Concert Series.
Six musicians have been selected to compete in the final round of the Marianne Liberatore Instrumental Competition on Dec 2nd at 1 pm. The public is encouraged to come and hear these wonderful musicians. No registration required.

Preston Yao, piano; a freshman at Darien High School in Darien, CT. Preston placed 1st in the 2015 Schubert Club of Fairfield County Competition in Chopin, 2016 CSMTA Fairfield Chapter Deborah Kahan Competition, 2015 & 2016 CSMTA Hartford Chapter Audrey Thayer Competition, and 2018 Suzanne Culley Competition.
Joshua Peiffer, flute is fifteen years old and a sophomore at Fairfield College Preparatory School where he is an honor student and a member of their two selective musical performance groups.
Cynthia Chen, violin, is a junior at Greenwich High School in Greenwich, CT, and began playing violin at age 5. In 2016. Cynthia has been part of Norwalk Youth Symphony for 8 years and is currently concertmaster of its Principal Orchestra performing in Europe, Tanglewood, and Carnegie Hall.
Chae Lim Yoon, violin, was born in South Korea, and now lives in Fairfield, Connecticut. She is a Senior at Fairfield Warde High School and has been the concertmaster of her high school orchestra for four years. Chae Lim currently studies at Juilliard School Pre-College Division
Shea Smith, guitar, is 16 years old and is a junior at New Canaan High School. He has played classical guitar for 12 years, including the works of Beethoven, Bach and Sor. He studied under Michael Mcallie, Joseph Shields and Trevor Babb. Shea volunteers every weekend at the KEYS program, teaching guitar to underserved youth in Bridgeport.
Alison Shively, violin, started playing the violin at age 4. She currently studies with Professor Kyung Yu of the Yale School of Music. She has been a long time member of the Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras where she is currently Concertmaster of their Chamber Orchestra and Assistant Concertmaster of the Principal Orchestra.
