NEW DATE – Tuesday, October 29: Join renowned CNN historian Timothy Naftali in conversation with Fairfield University Professor Philip Eliasoph, PhD., who serves as the university’s Special Assistant to the President for Arts and Culture. Naftali has helped to establish the study of modern international and espionage history, and he has also written extensively on U.S. presidential impeachments. Apart from serving as the founding executive director of the Richard M. Nixon Presidential Library and Museum, Naftali was a consultant to both the Nazi War Crimes and Japanese Imperial Government Records Interagency Working Group and to the 9/11 Commission. Naftali is the author of numerous bestselling titles, including Kruschev’s Cold War and Impeachment: An American History. Naftali and Eliasoph will engage in a wide-ranging conversation, covering some of the top issues in American politics today, as well as moments of particular turmoil in our political past.

Timothy Naftali has served as CNN’s Presidential Historian since 2016, and is the author of a biography on George H.W. Bush, as well as an accomplished study on United States counterterrorism policy over eight presidencies. Alongside Aleksandr Fursenko, Naftali is also the co-author of two books on US-Soviet relations. Naftali was the first director of the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda, California. While there, he was tasked with presenting a non-biased, objective perspective on the era-defining Watergate Scandal.

Naftali received his undergraduate degree from Yale University, and went on to earn a Master of Arts from Johns Hopkins. Later, he received his PhD from Harvard University.

Philip Eliasoph is a man with many interests and specialties. After founding Fairfield University’s Art History Department in 1975, he has gone on to moderate and host the University’s Open VISIONS Forum. In this capacity, he has had the pleasure of interviewing such luminaries as William F. Buckley Jr., Gore Vidal, Dominick Dunne, Salman Rushdie, Christopher Hitchens, and many others.

Eliasoph is most passionate when connecting the art of the past with the issues and contexts of today. Through his work, he has sought to visually explore the masterpieces of ancient, Renaissance, modern and contemporary artworks.
