Learn more about Fairfield’s first-ever master Sustainability Plan which details specific initiatives for safeguarding the Town’s natural and built environments, natural resources, and quality of life.

Fairfield has emerged as statewide leader in sustainability initiatives, recently earning top honors as a “Sustainable CT” community under a new statewide program recognizing Connecticut’s most thriving and resilient municipalities.  The Sustainable CT initiative, which awards certifications to communities that voluntarily meet high standards in a broad range of sustainability areas, in October named Fairfield as one of just five towns statewide to receive a Silver certification, the program’s highest designation.

The plan is being developed for the Town by the Sustainable Fairfield Task Force (SFTF), with input from Town officials and other stakeholders.  Initially introduced to the Town earlier this year, the plan captures current as well as planned actions for enhancing Fairfield’s sustainability across 10 areas:  air, the built environment, education and outreach, energy, financial management, food, the natural environment, transportation, waste management, and water.

Residents can view the current plan version on the Town Website here:  http://www.fairfieldct.org/sustainabilityplan; comments on the plan can also be provided by email to fairfieldcleanenergy@gmail.com.
