Support your local artists! We are proud to partner with Music for Youth to offer young, world-class musicians a stage to showcase their talents to their local community: Chae Lim Yoon, violin; Wujin Kim, cello; Avery Duer, piano. Featuring the top three finalists of the Marianne Liberatore Scholarship Competition, each artist is an emerging and extraordinary talent who is either attending a music conservatory program or in the process of applying. Artists for the 2019 series were selected from the finalists.

Avery Duer, piano
Avery Duer, 17, is a Junior at Greens Farms Academy in Westport, CT and has been studying piano with Ms. Yoshie Akimoto for almost three years. Most recently, Avery placed First in the Connecticut Bach Festival Youth Piano Division held in November 2018. In April 2018, Avery placed First in the Senior Bach Category and Second in the Senior Chopin Category at the Schubert Club Competition of Fairfield County. She also placed Second in the Junior Division of the Chappaqua Orchestra Concerto Competition 2018. Avery was a Finalist at the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Concerto Competitions in March 2018 and 2019.
In February 2017, Avery won first prize and “Most Outstanding Performance” award at the 32nd Annual CSMTA Deborah Kahan Competition. She also won first prize for the French Award at the April 2017 Schubert Club Competition. In the Fall 2016, Avery was Alternate Winner of the MTNA State Competition.
Every June, Avery takes great pride in participating in the Young Talent Chamber Music Workshop (YTCM), which is a highlight of the year. She loves collaborating with other students and professionals like renowned cellist Allison Eldridge. In August 2017, she performed at the Vianden International Chamber Music Festival in Luxembourg.
Avery’s passion is music. When she is not on the piano, she enjoys playing all percussion instruments, especially for theater productions in the pit band for her school and the community. In addition to music, Avery is a committed Social Justice Advocate and is very involved in the equity and inclusion groups on campus that work to promote change in society.
Wujin Kim, cello
Wujin Kim, 17, currently studies cello under Clara Minhye Kim at the Juilliard School. He studied with Lois Errante for 9 years and is coached in chamber music by Asya Meshberg. Wujin is currently a member of the New York Youth Symphony and served as the principal cellist of Principal Orchestra in the Norwalk Youth Symphony last year. In 2014 and 2015, Wujin was the winner of the Junior Competition and Senior Competition of the Young Artist Festival sponsored by the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the American Chamber Orchestra after winning the Concerto Competition in 2016. In 2017, Wujin was selected as a winner of the Norwalk Youth Symphony Concerto Competition and served as the principal cellist of the CMEA All-State Orchestra in 2017 and 2019. He has also won honorable mention in the New York Music Competition and the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition.
In the summer of 2018, Wujin studied under Steven Doane at the Bowdoin International Music Festival. He has also attended the Chamber Music Institute for Young Musicians and Elm City Chamberfest as the recipient of the Cello Scholarship in 2016. Wujin enjoys playing chamber music with his friends to support organizations such as the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Grace Farm’s Community Dinner, and the YMCA of Greenwich. This summer, Wujin will study under Hans Jørgen Jensen at the Meadowmount School of Music.
Chae Lim Yoon , violin
Chae Lim Yoon was born in South Korea, and now lives in Fairfield, Connecticut. She is a Senior at Fairfield Warde High School and has been the concertmaster of her high school orchestra for four years. From 2008 to 2010, Chae Lim studied at Pre Kaywon School of Arts in South Korea and from 2015 to 2018, attended Meadowmount School of Music. Chae Lim won numbers of musical awards including third place at the 27th Annual National Student Music Scholarship Concour (piano division), second place at the Sejong Orchestra National Music Concour, first place at ACO Concerto Competition, and third place at Lyra Music Competition. She has often soloed with orchestras and has given several solo recitals, chamber music and orchestra performances in Juilliard, Lincoln Center, Meadowmount School of Music, and throughout New York and Connecticut. Chae Lim currently studies at Juilliard School Pre-College Division with Dr. Ann Setzer.
