Support your local artists! We are proud to partner with Music for Youth to offer three world-class musicians a stage to showcase their talents to their local community. As the top three finalists of the Marianne Liberatore Scholarship Competition, each artist is an emerging and extraordinary talent who is either attending a music conservatory program or in the process of applying. Artists for the 2019 series were selected from the finalists.
Free and open to the public. No registration required. Light refreshments served.
About the Artist
Alison Shively started playing the violin at age 4. She currently studies with Kyung Yu of the Yale School of Music. She has been a longtime member of the Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras, where she is currently Concertmaster of their Chamber Orchestra and Assistant Concertmaster of the Principal Orchestra. She was also Concertmaster Concertmaster of their 2018 summer tour to Scotland and Iceland. Alison was the winner of GBYO’s annual concerto competition and performed the Sibelius concerto with the Principal Orchestra in their Spring Concert in May 2017. The following year, she performed the Tchaikovsky concerto with Danbury Symphony as winner of their 2018 Concerto Competition. Alison is an avid chamber musician and plays in two string quartets, as well as Vivace, a choreographed string group in Westport that concentrates on non-classical repertoire. Vivace toured Spain over Thanksgiving 2018. Alison has also participated in master classes and workshops with renowned musicians as well as memorable summer camps such as the idyllic Kinhaven Music School in Vermont. In addition to music, Alison enjoys reading, writing, drawing, and cycling. She volunteers at the Yale New Haven Hospital and was a member of her school’s mock trial team for two years. She hopes to study medicine and become a surgeon. Alison is a junior at Trumbull High School in Connecticut.
