Electra Havemeyer Webb: Preserving American Folk Art for Future Generations

Electra Havemeyer Webb was a visionary planner and founder of the Shelburne Museum, and a pioneering collector and preservationist. Electra Havemeyer Webb is credited with almost single-handedly preserving and shaping Americana visual culture for decades as a pioneering collector and savior of American Folk Art. Webb established American Folk Art as a genre of American art, material culture and history to be preserved for future generations. She saw beauty in the everyday objects that had been part of American life for generations.
Lecturer Christine E. Hauck is an award-winning designer and strategic arts consultant creating marketing, branding, and collateral materials for her graffeast studio, a multimedia artist, and visual arts educator. She is also an Adjunct Professor in Digital Media and Design for the University of Connecticut. She has a M.A. in the History of Decorative Arts and Curatorial Studies from the Parsons School of Design and the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, a design degree in Graphics and Advertising from Parsons School of Design (with a postgraduate seminar in Japan) and a B.A. in Art History from Vassar College.
