6 People on the Sea Lodge Steps
The Sea Lodge on Pequot Avenue at Southport Beach was built by the Sasquanaug Association in 1901. The bathing costumes suggest the photo was taken not too long after that. This photo was found in a box of Helen Bradley (1857-1947, daughter of David Bradley) memorabilia. Thus, some of the women pictured may be part of the David Bradley family, who lived at 246 Old South Street Note the board and batten siding of this the original Sea Lodge building.

Carey’s Corner circa 1900
The term Carey’s Corner was often used to denote the 5-point intersection of Pequot Avenue East and West, Old Post Road, Rose Hill Road, and Main Street. More specifically it referred to this building, which was a popular ice cream parlor/restaurant. This building burned down in 1904. The site is now occupied by Switzer’s Drug Store. The billboard on the left advertises a movie house in Bridgeport. The house to the left of the Carey’s Corner building was the home of William Disbrow, now #338 Pequot Avenue.
