Part-time position to work as a Page at Pequot Library in Southport, CT. Pequot Library is a bustling cultural center bringing literature, music, art, and education to the life of the community. Responsibilities include:
- Organizing and shelving books according to the Dewey Decimal system.
- Reading the shelves to be sure everything is in order.
- Assisting patrons in locating library materials.
- Answering basic library questions or referring patrons to Senior Library Staff.
- Book processing including placing barcodes, etc. in new books and covering books.
- Helping Senior Library Staff in other activities as needed, such as Children’s and Adult programming.

Circulation Desk Staff
Part-time position to work at the Circulation Desk at Pequot Library in Southport, CT. Pequot Library is a bustling cultural center bringing literature, music, art, and education to the life of the community. The Circulation Desk staff is the primary contact with the public, and their warmth and helpfulness is an essential part of what makes Pequot Library such a unique and valued institution.
Typical Duties:
- Works at the circulation desk with some weekend hours possible.
- Checks books in and out, processes reserves, overdues, etc.; empties book drop on Sundays.
- Registers patrons, updates patron records and collects fines and fees for overdue and damaged items.
- Monitors public use of library facilities and assists patrons in location of library materials and equipment.
- Answers informational and basic reference questions; directs other questions to senior Librarians.
- Responds to telephone inquiries about library programs and services.
- Responsible for shelving materials when library pages are absent.
- Performs other library tasks as assigned.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor's Degree and some library experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively and courteously.
- Ability and desire to serve the public of all ages.
- Ability to work as a team member.
Successful candidate must be outgoing, extremely well-organized, and have a strong attention to detail. College degree and library experience preferred. Knowledge of SIRSI Workflows and Windows and its applications necessary. Saturdays and occasional Sundays and possible evening required. technical services assistant
Part-time position to work in Technical Services at Pequot Library in Southport, CT with occasional Circulation Desk hours. Pequot Library is a bustling cultural center bringing literature, music, art, and education to the life of the community. The Circulation Desk staff is the primary contact with the public, and their warmth and helpfulness is an essential part of what makes Pequot Library such a unique and valued institution.
Typical Duties:

Orders all library materials using B&T Link, direct phone calls to vendors and typed purchase orders. Files confirmation slips.

Unpacks, receives and routes all library materials.

Withdraws library materials: deletes titles from data base and prepares items for recycling when appropriate.

Processes all adult and juvenile fiction, non-fiction and audio-visual materials. Types all spine labels. Applies labels, bookplates and stickers to library materials as necessary.

Processes all book discussion titles and summer reading books.

Coordinates the covering and participates in the mending of all library materials (print & nonprint).

Attaches to bibliographic records when needed.

Works in other library departments when assigned; regular circulation desk hours.

Performs duties in a climate-controlled environment. Routinely exposed to computer screen. Required to lift/push medium to heavy weights, e.g. cartons of books or book carts filled with library materials.

Performs other library tasks as assigned.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

High school graduate plus two years of appropriate formal post secondary school courses or the equivalent in practical experience.

Proficiency in alpha and numeric data entry and other computer applications.

Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, co-workers and patrons.

Ability to work as a team member.
