Charles Dickens: Visual Clues to a Rich and Controversial Public and Private Life by Dr. Susan Whitcomb
Wednesday, February 27th at 7:00 PM in the Reading Room and Perkin Gallery
Susan Whitcomb graduated from Wellesley College and earned her Ph.D. in English Language and Literature from Yale University. She was Associate Professor of English at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, CT and also taught at Purchase College. She has lectured, published and taught several courses in medieval and renaissance literature, early modern women writers, Shakespeare and film, the contemporary novel, and writing.
Dr. Whitcomb is a docent at the Morgan Library and Museum, where she conducts tours of special literary exhibitions, including Dickens, Churchill, Islamic manuscripts, and Beatrix Potter’s picture letters. She also covers the permanent collection of Near Eastern seals, illuminated manuscripts, early printed books, and literary and historical manuscripts.
Dr. Whitcomb is founder and President of Haitian Educational Initiatives, a 501(c)(3) organization that partners with Haitian community groups to provide tuition, feeding, academic tutoring, and job training programs in Jacmel, Haiti. www.haitiedu.org. She lives in Southport.
