For High Schoolers: "Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore" Book Talk with Pizza

Tuesday, August 20, 2013, 05:00pm - 06:00pm

penumbra•    Who hasn’t read their second summer required book, who has, who’s just thinking about it?

•    Look no farther than Pequot Library. High schoolers come gather in our small, local, quirky library, with pizza

•    Discuss Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan

•    Tuesday, August 20, 2013, from 5pm – 6pm.

The book is like The DaVinci Code meets Google, set in a small, quirky bookstore. One of Amazon’s “Best Books of the Month,” this is a novel about books and technology, cryptography and conspiracy, friendship and love. It begins in a mysterious San Francisco bookstore, but quickly reaches out into the wider world and the shadowed past. It’s also about really, really old books and lost books, and how the use of technology may be able to find them.

The Economist called Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore “a clever and whimsical tale with a big heart.” NPR says it’s full of “large-hearted magic.” Read the book, talk about it over a slice or two, and then celebrate the completion of summer reading, with a page-turning of one of Pequot Library’s own really, really old books.

For more information and to register for a correct pizza count, call Pequot’s Teen Librarian, Marianne Pysarchyk at (203) 259-0346, ext. 19.
