A performance by the rising twenty-year-old clarinetist Narek Arutyunian. He won First Prize at the 2010 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, he was also awarded the Leona Green Memorial Award and the Meridian Symphony Prize to perform as soloist with orchestra and the invitation to perform in the Embassy Series in Washington, DC, the Brownsville Concert Series of New England and at the Usedom Music Festival in Germany.
Mr. Arutyunian has performed at the Louvre Auditorium in Paris and at the Palazzo del Principe in Genoa. He has appeared as soloist with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra in the Czech Republic, and in Russia with the Kalingrad Philharmonic, the Moscow Philharmonic, the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra and the State Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Arutyunian’s clarinet is a personal gift of the conductor and violinist Vladimir Spivakov.
Already an award winner at age sixteen of First Prize at the International Young Musicians Competition in Prague and at age 15 at the Musical Youth of the Planet Competition in Moscow, Narek also received a coveted prize by the renowned violist and conductor Yuri Bashmet to perform concerts and record the Weber Concertino for Clarinet with the State Symphony of New Russia.
Born in Armenia, Narek moved to Moscow with his family when he was three years old. He later graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory where he studied with Evgeny Petrov. Now living in New York he has been studying with Charles Neidich at Queens College. As of fall 2011, he has continue to work with Mr. Neidich at the Juilliard School.
