Zsolnay Porcelain from Hungary - Display

Miklós Zsolnay established the Zsolnay Porcelain factory in Hungary in 1853. The factory's first major success occurred at the 1873 World Exhibition in Vienna. On the basis of its displays, the factory received a great number of orders from England, France, Russia, and even from America. Success continued at the 1878 World Exhibition in Paris as well as Zsolnay Tea cup for webat other exhibitions including Chicago in 1893. By 1900, Zsolnay porcelain was world-renowned, especially for its special eosin glaze, a well-kept secret. Today, the Zsolnay Porcelain Factory holds on to its great traditions, while at the same time stressing the importance of a continuous renewal.

This exhibit is in collaboration with Quinnipiac University's Eastern European Studies curriculum and their exhibit at Southport Gallery.
